BIOGRAPHY
Derek Lee Nixon was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, graduating from Churchill High School is 2001. At the age of 6, Derek began his T.V. / Film career with a PSA (Public Service announcement) for the Department of Public Safety. From ages (6 - 17), Derek worked on many regional commercials including Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and Southwestern Bell, as well as National Commercials including Ford Motor Company, Sea World and Just Say No. Derek’s Television credits also included Spanish Club House (with Hilary and Haylie Duff), Kaleidescope, Boundaries and America's Most wanted.
When Derek turned 18, he left his home in Texas to peruse his acting career in California. Soon upon arriving, Derek landed his first breakthrough leading role as "Ryan" in Mary-Kate and Ashley's, ‘When in Rome’. Upon completion of filming ‘When in Rome’, Derek got a role on the short lived television series Do-Over, and many guest star appearances on the MTV hit sketch comedy show ‘The Andy Dick Show’. Other television credits included Boston Public and Friday Night Lights.
After taking a short hiatus from Los Angeles to attend school, Derek in late 2006 Produced and starred in the Horror/Thriller feature film Hallettsville, directed by his long time friend and fellow San Antonian, Writer/Director Andrew Pozza. Hallettsville presented the opportunity for Derek to star alongside Academy Award nominee Gary Busey (The Buddy Holly Story, Point Break, Lethal Weapon) [worldwide release Feb 09’].
In 2007, Derek began development on a Sci-fi/horror "The Lights" starring himself, Joe Estevez, Kerry Wallum and Ozzy Lusth (Survivor Cook Island & Fans VS. Fav’s). [The Lights Slated for worldwide release 10-09’]
In March 2007, Derek signed onto Outrage starring Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, Kill Bill vol:2, Free Willy, Species), Natasha Lyonne (Slums of Beverly Hills, But I’m A Cheer Leader & The American Pie Series) and Himself in this high action packed thriller with Fantastic Films INTL.
May 29th 2007, Derek celebrated the birth of his daughter (Tyler Jade Nixon), the new light of his life.
In October of 2008, Derek signed on to his 1st studio, high school comedy as Chester the 2nd lead in a comedy The Jerk Theory with an all star cast including Tom Arnold (True Lies, Nine Months, Austin Powers), Jenna Dewan (Step up), Josh Henderson (Desperate Housewives, The Girl Next Door, Over-There), Danny Bonnaduci, Todd Bridges, Lauren Storm (Flight 29 Down, I Love You Beth Cooper) and Jesse Heiman (Catch me if you can, American Pie 2).
